Choosing your Wedding Flowers

Need help choosing your wedding flowers? Outlined below are the 4 most popular styles of bouquet with a little information about each for you to consider.  Remember you want the flowers to complement not detract from your dress, so think about the style, cut and colour.

Formal Bouquet

Typically an all-white, hand tied bouquet, traditionally filled with flowers such as roses, calla lillies or orchids.

What to know: This arrangement can be at the higher end of the price range (the blooms tend to be expensive). White buds can bruise easily; be sure to keep them in a cool, shady spot where they won't wilt.

Contemporary

This is a tighly packed bouquet of any type of flowers with fun informal accents such as berries or pretty embellishments.  Get inventive and add special touches to reflect your personal style.

What to know: With this type of arrangement you can really let your imagination run wild, or ask us for help with some creative ideas. Go with blooms that are in season to keep the costs down.

Monochromatic Large Flowers

Three to five heads of large, single hued flowers, such as hydangeas.  Lillies, fressias and gerberas also work really well in this type of bouquet.  Foliage is minimal.  This simple type of arrangement is perfect against a detailed gown which calls for an unfussy bouquet.

What to know: These bouquets can be a good option for those on a limited budget as we are working with only one flower variety.

Wildflowers

Currently a very popular choice, this bouquet includes a variety of types, colours and textures of culivated wildflowers such as blue thistle, dianthus, lavender, lisianthus, celosia, poppies and eucalyptus.  They are grouped together to appear randomly pciked and gathered.  Perfect for a casual affair, these bouquets are often wrapped with patterned ribbon or material.

What to know: It may seem like a great DIY option, but it can be tricky to get this look right.  If you do want to give it a go yourself, pick flowers the day before you need them and leave to soak in water overnight.

Ways to save money

Use flowers twice - use your Bridemaids bouquets as centrepieces on the head table.  We can arrange for suitable vases to be ready on the table so they just need to be popped in after photos.

Having flowers during your ceremony?  Arrange for a friend or relative to transport them to the venue where you can continue to enjoy them for the night!

Consider a pretty wristlet instead of a bouquet for your Bridesmaids.  They can be attached to a gorgeous pearl or diamante bracelet which can double as your gift to them.  As there are less flowers, they cost a fraction of the cost of bouquets.
